"For Sunday issues, only the first version published in the source link will be considered for resolution."
It's because a guy claimed that the NYT can publish two editions on Sunday (one in the afternoon) situation that have never happened. He did this to hijack the proposals for himself, and as a consequence, the money gets stuck for 24 hours even though the Sunday edition has already been published so people don't put a lot of money there due to this

I agree, once the Sunday edition releases all the NOs get bonded anyways every week, seems like an unnecessary delay

i remember this suggestion, we added this at the end of the rules. think its enough?
Only the first official release of a qualifying front page will be counted. Any subsequent releases that differ from the initial release will not be considered. Other editions will not be considered.

I think the argument is that there could theoretically be a special edition later on Sunday, which could maybe argued as being a daily edition (dubious) and the first official release of the paper. I think this rule does actually cover it but we haven't seen a dispute to set the precedent.
