Hi everyone, I'm trying to get a better sense of what the market looks like these days. I've been working on my bot for about 2.5 months and managed to replicate the strategy of one of the top market makers in the short term markets. Even so, my PnL is still negative.
I'd love to hear how things are going for everyone else. How long have you been trading, and are you currently profitable? I'm also curious how many of you have seen your PnL gradually turn negative over time as competition has continued to increase.

So, you're renting a regular server in London, but using an IP from an allowed location when connecting to the CLOB?

But London is a blocked location for Polymarket everywhere except within Polymarket's own data centers. Did you find a workaround? And if it's not the Polymarket data center, how much higher is your latency compared to being hosted there?

Let me ask you something: if I manage to get hosted in the Polymarket data center, would that be the same setup as yours, since your servers are hosted there as well?

These are the results I'm getting from AWS Dublin, and they're noticeably slower. What do you think? Is the difference too large to assume it's caused by the location alone?

Exactly. 🙂 "PolyVPN London node" is that the Polymarket data center?

Hey. How exactly is this metric calculated? What steps do you take to ensure that you're measuring CLOB latency specifically, rather than network or client infrastructure latency?

From AWS Dublin (eu-west-1) my warm round-trip to the CLOB is ~20ms p50 (min 20.1, p90 27) — measured as a warm keep-alive GET https://clob.polymarket.com/time (dynamic, hits origin), 80 samples. TCP connect to the Cloudflare DUB edge is ~1.5ms, so ~20ms is the edge→origin leg.
Anyone hosting directly in London — what's your warm GET /time round-trip (same method)? Trying to see how much the origin-proximity actually buys over Dublin, given we all go through Cloudflare anyway.

Do you use Wexford yourself? I noticed that in this thread you're the only person who has mentioned that city. Thanks.

First time I’ve heard of that 👀 . What server are you using? Wouldn’t Polymarket’s data center in London be a better option?

I’m in Ireland. Speed for limit orders is important to me. Could you tell me how much further it can realistically be improved? The data in the screenshot is based on trading 5-minute BTC markets. Half of the orders are executed at around 43 ms.

So overall, are my current latency figures competitive with efficient traders?

I’m currently using only one AWS server. Would adding another one actually provide any real benefit?

Because during trending markets there is a heavy load from a large number of orders, and Polymarket can’t keep up.

Could you give me some feedback on the latency? How good is it for Ireland, and is there still room for improvement? It’s important for me to achieve the lowest possible latency for limit orders. Would moving to the Polymarket data center reduce latency further, and is it also worth trying to switch to Rust?

There are traders I’ve been analyzing for a long time, and they don’t have this problem - their orders at the back of the winning side get filled quite well.

My problem is that limit orders placed at the back of the queue on the winning side rarely get filled, unlike on the losing side where selling activity is high. I assume the reason is simply that I’m slower than other participants, and that this is the issue I need to solve.

Is there even any point in trying to get hosted there? I’ve looked into the history, and people are complaining that the execution speed isn’t any faster than from Ireland

So, in short-term markets, the first limit orders are placed by those who have passed KYC and have their bots hosted in Polymarket’s data centers? And no matter how hard you try, you’re at a disadvantage by default. How realistic is it to get approved for this? Who has managed to get approval, and who hasn’t?

As I understand it, when the order book is heavily loaded with limit buy orders and there aren’t many sellers, then it doesn’t really matter whether your delay is 1 second or even 2 seconds. What matters is your position in the queue relative to others. And to compete, you need to be among the fastest participants. In that case, even an advantage of a few milliseconds over others can play a decisive role, right?

<@707597210845446214> Polymarket quick q on the btc 5m latency - is the p99 tail basically just the matching engine queue when everyone fires at once? my post is 47ms p50 from ireland but jumps over 1s p99 the second btc moves, and my own signing is only 9ms so it's not on my end. is the core matching fix you mentioned gonna actually bring that tail down, any eta on it? and honestly is there anything that even helps the tail - colo into eu west2, batch posting , or is it just a wait it out thing rn?
