how does anyone qualify for the higher rate limits past advanced or is that really only their for the big fish i feel like that is an unreasonable amount of volume

There is a volume requirement if you go to your portfolio then click api tier

Lots of people "feel" like the limits should be higher because of...vibes? No one ever does the math to see what their actual capital contribution to the exchange is worth vis a vis the API overhead. They just kinda think they should be able to get more

They have requirements because it creates a great deal of overhead on their systems. If you actually need that many requests per second then you should probably be at least close to the volume requirement and if you are close they might give it to you early if you ask nicely. They can't just make more system resources appear to service lower volume strategies.

You can do a great deal of optimizations on your own side if rate limits are actually an issue

I know I don't manage my own rate limit perfectly but I manage it well enough that rate limits are not an issue for me

They are definitely not an issue it’s just always preferable to have faster update rates and I guess it just feels unreachable

But it's not a speed issue it's a volume issue. Orders take the same amount of system load to update if they're for 1 contract or 100,000. The limits are there so hobbyists aren't bogging down the server tweaking nickel and dime orders at the expense of serious market makers

And I am speaking as what I would consider to be a serious hobbyist
